Care instructions

notAjewelry is mostly handcrafted in silver, brass and copper or as a combination of metals often combined with alternative materials such as plastic, fabric, (semi-precious) stones, colors and  (found) objects.

All metals oxidize / change during time as an inevitable and always present process as we all breathe.

Therefor the best and safest way to take care of your notAjewelry is to always store in a dry place within received black box and never mix it with other jewelry. .

Cleaning Techniques / (Sterling) silver

Most of my (sterling) silver earrings and rings with organic textured surfaces are handmade with an idea that natural changes suit them well and they will emphasize shades and diversity of magic silver.

I don't like the approach of shining and polished jewelry pieces so there's no special need and extra care concerning treatment of your notAjewelry.

I would like to add that some jewelry pieces are getting more elegant and unique as time passes by as they're changing within their charming antique note : like wine :)

Concerning silver matte / rough look (mostly on silver stud earrings) the best way to preserve that "rough" look and to prevent tarnishing is to clean them is with dry and clean (new) kitchen cloth, removing tarnish with matte effect.

Or you can use a soft-bristled brush, like a toothbrush which can also be used to clean dirt and grime from your jewelry. Use gentle strokes to avoid scratches on delicate surfaces.

Use mild soap and water: Mix a small amount of mild soap with warm water to create a cleaning solution. Soak your jewelry in the solution for a few minutes and then gently scrub with the brush. Rinse with water and dry with a soft cloth.

And always avoid harsh chemicals: Harsh chemicals, like bleach, can damage your jewelry. Avoid using them and stick to mild cleaning solutions.

Another tip if you like: you can use anti-tarnish strips which can be found at most jewelry stores, and they help prevent tarnishing by absorbing moisture and other contaminants.

Cleaning techniques : Brass / Copper Jewelry

Mixed metals jewelry also oxidize and tarnish during time.

Brass as alloy of copper and zinc can behave differently concerning the quality and percentage of zinc in alloy. In order to prevent your brass jewelry from tarnish, follow the same tips concerning taking care of silver jewelry:

-Always use a soft-bristled dry and clean brush, like a toothbrush or kitchen cloth in order to clean dirt and grime from brass surface and to achieve shiny look. Use mild soap and water: mix a small amount of mild soap with warm water to create a cleaning solution. Soak your jewelry in the solution for a few minutes and then gently scrub with the brush. Rinse with water and dry with a soft cloth.

Furthermore if you like to avoid tarnish on your brass rings, just wear them often!

The oils in your skin can help prevent tarnishing by keeping the metal shiny.

Copper (as well as brass) can leave traces depending of pH of the skin, therefor I do not use copper in a direct contact of the skin. Copper is mostly used in brooches, large necklaces or objects.

I often disguise copper with patina, colors and other creative approaches loving to see how it charmingly changes during time, therefore there's no need to take extra care of coper notAjewels.

Storage Tips:

  1. Keep it dry: Moisture can cause tarnishing and damage to your jewelry. Store your jewelry in a dry place, like in a received jewelry box (or a soft pouch.)
  2. Keep it separated: Store your jewelry separately to avoid scratches and tangles. You can use small ziplock bags or separate compartments in a jewelry box.
  3. Avoid direct sunlight: Sunlight can cause your jewelry to fade or discolor. Store your jewelry away from direct sunlight.

Other Maintenance Advice:

  1. Remove before activities: Remove your jewelry before engaging in activities like swimming, exercising, gardening or in the kitchen. These activities can cause damage to your jewelry.
  2. Regular maintenance: Regularly check your jewelry for signs of damage or wear and tear. Get it repaired by a professional jeweler if needed or you can always contact me at podnarcuk@gmail.com
